On This Day In Canadian History...                              

1827 - Joseph Howe, age 23, who had started working at the Halifax Gazette at age 13, acquires the Novascotian newspaper from George Young, who founded the paper in 1824; agrees to pay £1,050 in installments of £210 a year for five years; Howe soon made it into a popular and influential newspaper, reporting on Assembly debates and writing about the people and settlements of the province, and beyond.
