1876 - Alexander Graham Bell makes the world's first long-distance call from Brantford to the Bell homestead in Paris, Ontario; using a 13 km long line strung from Brantford.

On This Day In Canadian History....

1945 - Lt. Robert Hampton Gray shot down and killed in a bombing raid over Onagawa Bay, as he sinks a Japanese destroyer. Royal Navy pilot Gray was the last Canadian known to have died in World War II; awarded a posthumous VC. In 1989, in Sakiyami Park, Japan, Gray became the first member of the Allied Forces honored by the Japanese with a memorial.
