I received this interesting e-mail yesterday informing me I am in copyright infringement for publishing On This Day In Canadian History....

This was my reply..... Dear Sir,
First of all, I have NEVER EVER claimed to be the original publisher of my "This Day In Canadian History...." anyone who asks are told I use Bell Sympatico's "On This Day" as a reference guide. If you want credit, no problem, I'll give you credit on my blog, which by the way is a fan site for KISS Fm and their contests, aimed at helping friends and fans win prizes that KiSS gives away by sharing daily ViP songs and bonus codes that are given out on an hourly basis every weekend. No money has ever been made off of my site which I volunteer my own time to publish and run. In no way is it endorsed by KiSS Fm and/or Rogers media!
Also, I could never ever have imagined that Canadian History or History of any kind can be trademarked or licensed....it is FREAKING history!! From a FREE site which gives it away at no charge and continues to give it away. How can you trademark and charge for history??. Where did you get it from? History books? Encyclopedias? other reference materials?
As for hurting you financially, how can that happen if you give it away and I in-turn do the same? As for reputation, how the frack can I harm yours by doing a little coping and pasting of historical material? A typo? An errant semi-colon? A hanging participle?
I used your site because it gives interesting info, tidbits, trivia about something that is poorly taught in Canadian schools....Canadian History. I could go to any number of reference sources and use them, but I chose to use yours because of it's focus on Canadian History. You should be glad I discovered your FREAKIN' site and share Canadian History with other Canadians!
The way I see it is you give it away and I in-turn also give it away. No harm, no foul. And as a result people learn history, their OWN history.
Patrick Kilmartin
P.S. - Also, for a VP of a publishing firm, you might want to mix in some Spell-Check, cause I and my FREE Spell-Check program picked up a few spelling mistakes in your letter. One would think a publishing firm VP would have experience in editing and proof-checking. Tell you what...for my "license" fee I'll head over to Best Buy or Future Shop and buy a paid version of Spell-Check and mail it to you!
