1767 - Crown holds Prince Edward Island land lottery to divide PEI among various claimants for military or other public service; lots chosen at random, all in one day. The Earl of Egmont had asked George III to grant him Prince Edward Island forever; he planned to build armed castles and moats for himself and about 400 lesser lords.
