1793 - Alexander Mackenzie leaves Fort York at the forks of the Peace and Smoky rivers; heads west towards Pacific with party of nine, eventually reaching the Pacific Ocean via the Bella Coola River, becoming the first European to cross North America using a route north of Mexico.
