1923 - Canadian National Railways sets up the first radio network in Canada by hooking up Montreal station CHYC with CNRO Ottawa over telephone lines to broadcast the CNR anniversary program. CNRO later became CBO in 1937 when ownership was transferred to the CBC

1827 - Joseph Howe, age 23, who had started working at the Halifax Gazette at age 13, acquires the Novascotian newspaper from George Young, who founded the paper in 1824; agrees to pay £1,050 in installments of £210 a year for five years; Howe soon made it into a popular and influential newspaper, reporting on Assembly debates and writing about the people and settlements of the province, and beyond.

Approximately 54 years and 9 months ago my parents "made whoopee" for the second (documented) time in their marriage. As a result of that passionate union of their bits and pieces an 8lb 10.5 ounce red haired baby boy appeared exactly 54 years ago today in the Halifax Grace Hospital.
