On This Day In Canadian History...

1995 - AT&T Canada and three Canadian banks pay $250. million to become new owners of long-distance carrier Unitel Communications Inc; two biggest shareholders, Canadian Pacific Ltd. and Rogers Communications Inc., drop out of deal.

The company was subsequently acquired by MTS (Manitoba Telecom Services) in 2004, and was renamed MTS Allstream Inc. until 2012, when it was divided into two separate companies, MTS Inc. and Allstream Inc.
