Good early morning all ...

Bluesfest was a lot of fun but very draining after attending every day it was on and doing volunteer kitchen duty for six of those days. It will be nice to have a break.

I made a point today to sample the MNBA, Claridge, Subway and Hard Rock stages repeatedly from about 2pm onwards. What an amazing bunch of talent! If you bounced back and forth between the Subway and Hard Rock stages today, you would have enjoyed some of the best blues music you could expect to hear anywhere.

I also ran into PharmerPhil (who I met for the first time the other day) and Mr. Red who I made a point to seek out today in between all the running around amongst the stages. As you can imagine from their posts here, they're two of the nicest peeps you could meet. Make a point of showing up at a meet'n'greet where they indicate they will attend, or even one of Phil's band's gigs.

I took a number of Bluesfest pics today and previous days that I'll probably post on CHEZ's Facebook page once I figure out how to do it.

Very special thanks to Mr. Red with respect to the tip to consider volunteering at Bluesfest. I met a lot of nice people and enjoyed a lot of great music as a result of his generous and timely tip!

It's good to be a visitor of these blogs ... the benefits go beyond the points of bonus codes (but the points are good too!).

Did you manage to visit either (or both) of the WAGW sites on the weekend? If so, I was told that we may have a good chance of getting an invite. Also, apparently that's it for on-site events for that contest.

P.S. Thanks for maintaining the "fort" while a few of the regulars were Bluesfesting over the past two weeks!

KISS was tricky last night. First, they strung us out that a BEP song was forthcoming during the 11pm hour. Then they played a song (True) attributed to: will.i.am & Fergie (not BEP!) but counted it as a BEP song. Well played, KISS! You are a cagey adversary.

@Mr. E.

Went to Signature Audio on Friday and thanks to your post I managed to get out to Place D'Orleans on Saturday in time to get a code.

Saturday night at Bluesfest I picked up a code from Y101 for their Keith Urban contest. It turned out to be only worth 250 points instead of the 2500 I was expecting for an on location code. The contest is for a $250 cash draw this morning.

Good morning all,
I too have to thank Mr. Red as it was because of meeting him at Bluesfest last year (when he worked the Subway Tent)that I decided to become a tentie (and the Subway tent is my tent of choice).
@Mr.E - I didn't know you were pulling kitchen duty - the food was excellent every day I worked and I agree lots of great people work Bluesfest and I will be back next July (after I recuperate!)

Yes, I called the studio line and mentioned it to them. They fixed it...

I usually come on here when something is not right. The tech guy probably knows me by now...and for some reason, it is always the KISS website that has problems.

12pm BEP song: Where Is The Love?

@ Critic ... I guess I got there too early on Saturday as I didn't see Y101 when I arrived. I did see them marching across the street with the Y101 event banners as I left but had no idea what I missed. I think my luck has run out for a while as my wife won some cash from EZ Rock too last week! In any case, good luck in the Y101 draw and the WAGW contest!

I'm fallin' asleep today! Obviously I had too much fun at the Weezer concert even though I was watching from the (free) sidelines.

So what's the trick (or tip) with this FREE pizza on Tuesday's? I followed the steps but I don't see 'free pizza' on the menu so my first guess is check back at midnight...

4pm VIP song: Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me

Mr. E. said...

@ Stephanie

It may depend on the Milano location as to what time the menu with the free pizza option is enabled. Last week at my local location, it should have been enabled at 11am but wasn't. There's a chat option off to the right so I posed my question there and a rep replied back that they were enabling the menu at noon (it actually was enabled a few minutes early). The free pizza option (when available) is right at the top of the menu.

Thanks for the info. It looks like my 'home' store is Milano Sunnyside. Fingers crossed I have a lunch for tomorrow ;)

And good luck to everyone else who decides to participate.

The Y101 people didn't show up until around 10:30 - 10:45 and disguised as KISS FM. They were driving the KISS Kar and parked at the end of the line of taxis that were parked along south side of the Ottawa River Parkway. They proceeded to assemble their Y101 banners on the sidewalk. I got a card from them after they finish with the banners.

Watching the way they did things reminded me of gorilla marketing. Sort of improvising as they went along. They must have moved closer after I left because I didn't see them marching across the street with the banners.

Mr. E. said...

@ Critic

That's an amusing story. I left around 11pm and they must have been parading their banners away to pack them up. They probably were doing their marketing on the sly since Virgin was the main event sponsor. I thought EZ Rock was also doing some sly marketing (their promo vehicle was always parked away from grounds down towards the bus stop) until I went to pick up my cheque and found out they're Virgin's sister station (explains the good variety of tunes they play!).

I visited the Virgin tent Saturday and asked the DJ with the goatee (not sure of his name) for a free EZ Rock t-shirt to see his reaction. Of course, they didn't have any there but he seemed to be quite happy that they had a sister station now. Not surprising, because the ladies representing that station at Bluesfest were certainly EZ on the eyes! :-)

At Signature Audio Video, Jeff mentioned that 8 BEP songs are being played each day during the contest. As you can see from reviewing the main page of this blog, they aren't all making it there! For you die-hard points collectors, review the blog comments and the KISS playlist carefully to make sure you got them all before midnight comes around.

Did they mention which BEP song they were going to play 1/2 hour ago or did you guess?

Mr. E. said...

It was a guess. ;-)

Why are you avoiding your own blog today? I saw you posting on RadioWall earlier today so I know that you survived Bluesfest! (perhaps barely)

Great to finally meet you yesterday. Check out the pics links I posted earlier.

Re: Kitchen duty

Thanks for your kind comments but the real thanks has to go to the Chefs at Algonquin College. Even though I was working there, I'm still astonished at what they were able to achieve. It was quite insightful to do this work under their guidance.

It wasn't "Hell's Kitchen" for most of us, but the work was non-stop when required, much like the beer tents you worked at.

Yikes! I'm losing my literacy!

"real thanks has to go" should be "real thanks have to go" ...

This just in for Bluesfest volunteers ...

Hi everyone.
Wow, what a year. We beat the heat, dodged the rain, and soaked up the sun!
As the 17th edition of Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest comes to a close, I want to take this time to thank you for all your efforts over the past 12 days. Another successful event is in the books, thanks to you! Thanks so much for choosing Bluesfest as your summer volunteer experience – your dedication and enthusiasm are much appreciated.
To say thanks, we'd like to invite you to our Volunteer Appreciation Party slated for Friday, July 23 at 8 p.m. – 12 a.m. in the Marketplace Cafe at Algonquin College. Look for Building D - it will have balloons and you should see Marketplace and Bookstore signs. There is lots of free parking in lots 8 and 9 on Navahoe Drive off Woodroffe Avenue.
Site map: http://www.algonquincollege.com/main/yourAlgonquinTab/directions/woodroffeMap.htm
Live music with Silver Creek, buffet style finger-foods and cash bar will be available. All ages are welcome but I.D. will be required for cash bar. Note: Consider yourself invited if you completed your volunteer commitment this year. This function is not open to guests. RSVP is not required.
Also, I want to turn your attention to the volunteer newsletters we put out daily during the fest. In case you missed them, copies can be found at http://www.ottawabluesfest.ca/volunteernewsletters. In the last edition you can also see the names of all the ‘volunteer of the year’ award winners.
And one more thing - during the festival, we asked volunteers to give us some filmed feedback about their positive Bluesfest experience using the FLIP camcorder. Check out some of our FLIP CAMCORDER CORNER postings that the Survey Team recorded for us at http://www.ottawabluesfest.ca/dailynews.
All the best,
Tammy
