On This Day In Canadian History....

1613 - Samuel de Champlain set out to continue his exploration of the Huron country and in hopes of finding the "northern sea" he had heard about (probably Hudson Bay). With his native guides he reaches the site of Ottawa, on this date, and explores further up the Ottawa River, reaching Lake Nipissing. He then follows the French River until he reachs the fresh-water sea he called Lac Attigouautau (now Lake Huron).
