1953 - U.S. Air Force Reserve pilot Jacqueline Cochran flies a Canadair F-86 Sabre jet borrowed from the Royal Canadian Air Force over Rogers Dry Lake, California at an average speed of 652.337 miles-per-hour, becoming the first woman to break the sound barrier.
