On This Day In Canadian History....

1891 - James Naismith, a YMCA trainer from Almonte, Ontario, nails two peach buckets up on opposite ends of the Springfield College gym and instructs his students to toss soccer balls into them, thus inventing the game of basketball. He had been looking for a new indoor phys-ed activity for the winter season.
