On This Day In Canadian History....1950 - British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Prince Edward Island sign an agreement with Ottawa to build the Trans-Canada Highway. By the time it is completed in 1971, it will be the 3rd longest national highway in the world, after the Trans-Siberian Highway and Australia's Highway 1, with the main route spanning 7,821 km (4,860 miles).
