On This Day In Canadian History....1917 - With two British divisions, Gen Arthur Currie's Canadians begin their final assault on the Belgian village of Passchendeale, and reach the ruined outskirts in a heavy rainstorm and gale. Four Victoria Cross medals will be awarded for valour this day, to Cecil John Kinross, Hugh McDonald McKenzie, George "Harry" Mullin, and George Randolph Pearkes
