1923 - Frederick Banting & J. J. R. Macleod of the University of Toronto jointly win the Nobel Prize for Medicine for their discovery of insulin; they are the first Canadians to win a Nobel Prize, and share the prize with laboratory assistants Charles Best and J.B. Collip.
