Good Morning Everyone!

Happy Friday; for me ;)

@ Mr. E.,

Are you in Vancouver for business? I recall you've attended Ottawa events.

Just a Girl said...

@ Mr. E.,

Hmmm, coffee hasn't kicked in yet ... and so I thought you lived here (in Ottawa).

Good morning all :-)

@ Stephanie - I was just joking because it was still morning in BC when I posted and inadvertently left "morning" in the greeting. Had to try to save face after being caught by your eagle eye! ;-)

@ Mr. E.,

@ Critic - damn funny!

@ Stephanie - that sucks! I never liked that iTunes program and abandoned it a long time ago. It deliberately over-complicates everything and leads to the type of problem you've just experienced. Note that if you have a backup of your hard disk, you could probably salvage them. Many of the posters here and on RadioWall seem to be quite computer literate so you might be able to get some tips to recover your old songs, or at least avoid losing your new ones to a similar problem.

Just to be clear, if you reformat your hard drive, you lose everything. It has nothing to do with iTunes. Many laptops comes with a "recovery" DVD, but if you ever use it, you lose anything which wasn't on your laptop when you first bought it. Pics, MP3, vids, docs, everything you saved yourself will be gone.

DD is correct, of course. I was assuming that what happened to me was what happened to you. Using a fresh install of iTunes on a different machine, the software promptly erased all the songs from my iPod when I plugged it in to add new songs.

One other thing that may be possible if you don't have a hard disk backup is to use undelete software to retrieve them from your iPod's memory (assuming you have the problem I described above). However, this has to be done before too many new songs are added or you'll overwrite the associated memory locations with new data, corrupting the original songs.
