Good morning all,

For those interested, here's how Toys For Boys 2010 went down.

Registration was from 4 pm to 6:30 pm. To obtain your sequence number for trying your "key", you start by reaching your hand into a box to pull out a laminated card with said number. At this time, you are also given an envelope which contained 4 drink tickets, 2 coupons for $5 off a meal at Lone Star, and 2 coupons for free cover charge at Lone Star when bands are playing (the coupons all expire June 10 so there isn't too much of a rush to use them). You can snack on chips and salsa and start using your drink tickets while waiting.

At 5:30 pm, the party area was opened up on the 3rd floor. The first people in were lucky enough to get seats but many of us were left standing. The cover band This Side Up played from about 6 pm to shortly before 7 pm. From time to time, servers from Lone Star wandered about to the various tables or areas where peeps were congregated with trays of "finger" foods (ribs, chicken, shrimp, and some sort of wrap with cream cheese in it ... the food was very good but not enough though!).

The main event, hosted by Doc and Woody, started shortly after 7 pm. The first 10 contestants lined up for their shot at the prize, going in sequential order according to their cards. Each contestant had to choose from three vertical shelves containing CDs. This CD was then handed to Esther who placed it in the player. Each CD had a recording on it of an engine trying to start. On the losing CDs, the engine-starting sound was followed by some humourous sound or words to the effect that it failed (some were quite mean as the engine appeared to start but was immediately followed by a funny noise!). On the fifth batch of 10 contestants, the second one in (number 42) won the big prize. Everybody was so numbed by the preceding 41 failures/fakeouts, that it took a while to realize that the winning CD had been played.

After the big win, Chez announced that there would be door prizes later but you had to be in attendance to win. The band played another set to about 8:45 pm and then Cosmo and Esther did the door prize draws. They gave away two Lone Star gift baskets (for some odd reason to the same person), Simon & Garfunkel tickets, Roger Waters tickets, and a Bluesfest pass (no luck on any of these ... would have loved to get my hands on the Waters tickets). Several of these prizes were only given away on the second or third draw because so many people had left early. Following this, the band played a few more songs and wrapped up around 9:15 pm.

Unfortunately, my wife (and more than 100 other contestants) never even got a chance to pick a CD for the contest due to it being won so early (supposedly that was the earliest the contest had ever been won according to Chez). All of the main Chez personalities were there, those mentioned previously plus Eric, Robin, McCully, and few others that I've seen at on-site events but don't know their names. Also, the cover band was excellent. The singer has kind of a "Jack Black" persona (and physique!) going on! They did some great covers of AC/DC, U2, Rolling Stones, Quiet Riot, Franz Ferdinand, plus several others, including an awesome version of Thunderstruck as the song to launch the party. This band will be playing there again on May 28-29 (check with Lone Star to be certain of the dates). All in all, it was a fun evening but it would've been more fun if we had won at least something! :-(

@ Angel, thanks for the good luck wish on the Rogers Radio blog ... much appreciated!

You're welcome, Phil & Angel.

Did anybody else get shorted an entry into the Michael Bublé Winning Weekend? We should have 3 for the bonus codes crooner, home, and staycation but I have only 2 and have verified that all 3 were entered.

You can check by clicking here.

@Mr. E.

I also got shorted one entry. I haven't entered today's bonus code so I should have 2 entries (one for Monday & Tuesday) but it says I only have 1 entry. I checked my transactions and it says I got 1 entry for Crooner & 1 entry for Home. This isn't the first time this happens!
