On This Day In Canadian History....

1950 - British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Prince Edward Island sign an agreement with Ottawa to build the Trans-Canada Highway. Wouldn't you know it?! I was listening to Kiss in the background since before 6 am and just when I needed to turn it down for a few seconds, that's when the bonus code was announced. Jenny's bits on the morning show must be pre-recorded and inserted into the programming as no one answers the phone there Sunday morning. Oh well, hopefully it was code we already know (only 2 unknown now).

@ Mr. E.

I think the only radio station that broadcasts live on Sunday in Ottawa is CFRA, and even they're cutting back with their "This Week's Best of..." shows for Steve Madeley, Mark Suttcliffe, & Lowell Green.

I ran into Dylan Black (formerly of The Bear/Virgin) several months ago in Basics while he was "on the air" and we joked about it, and lamented the fact that in today's economy, radio stations no longer broadcast 24/7 live. That allows them to save $$ by not hiring part-time weekend staff.

Which made me wonder aloud if they are not contravening their CRTC licenses by being unstaffed, should there be an emergency that requires their assistance?
Remember, as they are an important partner in Emergency Broadcast System!

Sounds like it is Sandra this morning, not Jenny as I mentioned earlier.

@ Mr. Red ... I wasn't aware of that change in practice but these days, I guess it makes sense. I haven't been listening much to radio for a few decades as I have all the music on vinyl and CD that I like; it's only these loyalty programs that have recently brought me back to being a regular listener.

You raise a very good point about how they could effectively assist in an emergency situation with no one at the broadcast mike.

@ Angel, try Father as the 10 am bonus code on another site you visit. ;)

P.S. It's from a strange story about Keith Richards supposedly snorting the ashes of his cremated father!

Well, we came the closest ever to winning a substantial prize today as a contender for the $10K MyCar MyCash contest sponsored by Y101 (1 chance in 44). However, Lady Luck smiled on somebody else (we couldn't even win one of the much lesser door prizes, damnit!).

The final draw came down to a young lady who was going to spend the winnings on a trip to Jamaica and a farmer who needed the money to pay for his tractor (I'll let you guess who won). In any case, it was good for a $100 cheque and a nice BBQ lunch so it wasn't a total loss! Maybe this is a sign that we are intended to win the T4B contest instead!!!

That's too bad :( Maybe you will be lucky with the Toys 4 Boys contest! That's an awesome party. I was at Toys 4 Boys 2 & 3. I didn't win but it was a fun night!

@ Angel,

Cool! I didn't know that anybody here was at a previous T4B event. What exactly goes on there? Do they at least give you a meal out of it? Also, how long does it last roughly in your experience? I meant to ask Eric the Intern the next time I saw him, but in the excitement Saturday afternoon for the Sens tickets, I totally forgot. I'm also kicking myself for missing the Chez on-site event at Signature Audio on Friday as I was in the area but had no idea that it was going on (pays to check Chez's Facebook and Twitter daily during contest times).

BTW, feel free to share the other K-R code @ RW plus the "Phil Collins"-related code Drown in case you missed it.

@Mr. E.

I didn't get a meal the 2 years in a row I was there. They had munchies (chicken wings & nachos). They gave us tickets for 2 free drinks. When you get there and register they give you a number. They had people line up in groups of 20. You go and pick a key out of the box and see if it starts the motorcycle. There were 250 people with keys and the 174th person won it! It took a good 2 hours I think. That was Toys for Boys 2. It was about the same for Toys for Boys 3. I think there are not as many keys this year as the previous years cuz they used to give 3 keys a day and now it's only 2. Hope this helps!

@ Mr. Red,

Randy Jackson says you were "pitchy, dawg" because you didn't boldface your chorus 5pm bonus code "vocalization" like Angel and I did! [humourous American Idol reference!]

All kidding aside, were you able to get a reprieve from Rogers on participation in their radio loyalty programs yet? Given what is openly tolerated on Chez's Facebook page in direct opposition to published rules, you might be considered a misunderstood pioneer of the NWO where bonus codes are widely shared to (and used by) those who are internet-savvy.

Semi-related true story: Today, I met a very nice elderly fellow at the aforementioned Y101 event (he won a door prize so that was deservedly good for him), and asked him if both he and his wife participated in the loyalty program. He rather-proudly stated that it was only he who participated. I then suggested why doesn't he involve his wife as well, since it would double his chances for prizes. This notion had never occurred to him before I mentioned it. He was also so honourable in his commitment to the rules that he felt bad about using the Y101 playlist when he didn't actually hear/recognize one of the four songs of the day and "cheated." (If only he knew what he was actually up against.) He told me he has been involved with Y101's loyalty program since roughly day one and has about 150K points in reserve (I found out later today that I have about the same after just a few months since joining in January). Possibly, he bids his points away and won a lot of good stuff throughout the years but since he was rather proud of winning the door prize and mentioned nothing of winning past prizes, I doubt it.

The moral: None, really, just an interesting personal story that I thought members here would like to hear about. The man left happy and hopefully he will now involve his wife and win a little more often.

@ Angel,

Thanks a lot for the T4B insight. My wife's health condition is aggravated by unknowns so every little bit of offsetting information helps. There's still some chances to get into this round so keep trying! There should still be some on-site events according to the published rules, so check Facebook and Twitter routinely. Better yet, just phone Chez and ask what their on-site plans are (phone in when they actually answer the phone like when Cosmo is hosting!). I like to kid the new guy Cosmo when I see him because we both share Manitoba as a previous habitat! (He meets so many people here that when I pretend to know him from Winnipeg, he is thrown for a loop trying to remember!)

@ Mr. E.

I could use the HTML code to make my posts Bold, but it is a royal pain-in-the ass on the Crackberry to do it. You have to go into a separate page to grab the symbols that make the codes and it takes waaaaaay to long and is very difficult to do while driving. :-0
