I'm waiting for my new couches to be delivered. The cat was freaking out last night when we got rid of one of them (he's still freaking out this morning). You were saying a few weeks ago you were going to buy a water pistol so that Diablo would leave the furniture alone. I got one also, I'm hoping that'll work and he won't scratch the couches! Did you try it and did it work? :-)

Yup! It works great as positive reinforcement against negative behavior like scratching furniture. I've read about it numerous times as a behavior modification that veterinarians endorse.
Just go the the dollar store and pick up one, keep it on the coffee table (warning - they leak) and BAM! everytime they go near, pick it up, wait, aim, shoot when necessary and in your usual stern voice say "No!". They get it real fast :-)
